Part time occupation: Professional Shooter

Captain DeMatos has spent the last 34 years working on the water and traveling around the globe as a Merchant Seaman. He graduated from “Massachusetts Maritime Academy” in Cape Cod Mass. in 1976. After spending over 20 years at sea, as a “Ships Master” he was finally qualified to apply for a Port Pilot Position with the Port of Los Angeles. The role of a Port Pilot is to guide vessels in and out of harbors throughout the world. There are only 12 Port Pilots in Los Angeles which is the busiest container port in the U.S.

“It is an amazing job. I get to drive every type of ship on the water from tankers to passenger ships. Ships are the largest items on the planet that can be controlled by man and I get to drive them every day. What a blessing!

My first and foremost love is my family. I have a wonderful wife of 19 years and two amazing children. It takes strong family ties to put up with my demanding work and shooting schedule.

I started shooting when I was 12 but did not get competitive until the early 90’s when I shot my first match, “Soldier of Fortune”. That solidified my love of competitive shooting and from that day forward I never looked back.

I am truly honored to be representing “DPMS Panther Arms” as a sponsored shooter. The entire crew at DPMS is a class act. They make fantastic equipment and stand behind everything they produce. I am looking forward to a great 2010 season and we’ll see you at the range!”
