Frequently Asked Questions

  1. Everything is "Out Of Stock", how do I order online?
Many items in the DPMS online store are listed with an "Out of Stock" status. In many cases the reason for an item being listed as out of stock is due to shipping delays, we have so many orders on file that we cannot physically ship them out fast enough to be considered "In Stock". DPMS is accepting backorders on all items, simply place an order in the online store as you would for any "In Stock" item..
  2. How do I become a DPMS Dealer?
You can call DPMS and speak to one of our Sales Representatives. They will create a dealer account after they receive a copy of your FFL via fax or email. Once your account is set up (usually within 48 hours) you will be given a Username and Password to log into the DPMS Online Store. Once logged in, you will have access to Dealer Pricing on all products in the store with no minimum purchase necessary. If you have a PDF of your FFL you can email it to office@dpmsinc.com to get set up as a dealer as well.
  3. I just ordered a rifle, why is my "Confirmation Email" blank?
In most cases, a blank confirmation email is caused when a retail customer ignores several prompts advising them that ordering a rifle or lower receiver is not possible online. DPMS does not sell restricted items to any individual without a Federal Firearms License. DPMS recommends printing your rifle summary page and brining that print out to an FFL dealer to place your order. If you are a Registered FFL dealer with DPMS, please contact the sales staff about any blank confirmation emails.
  4. Are there restrictions on shipping for new customers?
Yes, for first time online customers, the only "rush shipping" available is 3 day. Due to company policy we cannot ship orders from first time customers any faster.
  5. What is Cryo-Accurizing?
Cryo-Accurizing is a one-time, homogeneous process that permanently and dramatically improves the performance and useful life of metals in everything from trumpets and gun barrels to racing engines and machine tools. Using a proprietary computer-controlled process, the metal is cooled slowly to -300°F, held for 20-30 hours, then raised to +300°F, and slowly returned to room temperature. Although not apparent to the naked eye, the improvements to the metal are significant: a denser molecular structure and a larger surface area of contact.
  6. Does DPMS have a newsletter or online specials?
Yes. To subscribe to our email newsletter/special offers, send your email address to dpmsadmin@dpmsinc.com.
  7. What is your break in process?
We recommend cleaning the bore every round for 25 rounds and every tenth round for an additional 100 rounds. Use a bore brush or bore snake with either CLP or solvent.
  8. Will my .223 upper or lower work with a .308?
We have 2 basic rifle platforms and a few different calibers that correspond with one or the other:

    .223/5.56 Platform: .204 Ruger, .223 Remington, 5.56x45mm NATO, 6.8 SPC, 7.62x39mm (discontinued) and .30 Remington AR
    .308 Platform: .300 SAUM (discontinued), .308 Winchester, .243 Winchester, .260 Remington, .338 Federal and 6.5 Creedmoor
  9. Do you still offer the 22LR?
The .22LR is on a manufacturing hold right now, due to redesign. There is no set date for the release of this system.
  10. Why can't I log in using my previously created account information?
This may be one of a few simple issues. When logging in using your email and password (or user name and password for dealers) be sure to click the "Sign In" button. Incidentally, hitting "Return" or "Enter" after filling in these fields will conduct a search in the DPMS Online Store with no results, bringing up a page stating "Nothing could be found...". If you have tried this already, make sure your "Caps Lock" is turned off as the passwords are case sensitive, also, when using the number pad, make sure your "Num Lock" is on. One final "quick fix" may be the need to simply update your browser to the newest version. If you are still having problems, please contact us.
  11. Why don't I receive emails from DPMS (order confirmations or special offers)?
Make sure DPMS is in your "Safe Sender" list in your email application. Some corporations/companies may have restrictions set up on their email servers. To avoid having DPMS marked as spam by your corporate email filter, it is best to use your personal email address when ordering.
  12. Where can I find the DPMS "No Signature Required" Form?
The "No Signature Required" Form is available at check-out in the store. If you missed it, you can also find it HERE.

  14. Are your barrels chrome-lined?
DPMS offers chrome-lined barrels in the following configurations as a factory option:
    20" Heavy Barrel
    16" Heavy Barrel
    16" M4 Contoured Barrel
    14.5" M4 Contoured Barrel
    11.5" Short Barrel
    7" Short Barrel
Cost of this upgrade is $32.95. As a note ALL 14.5", 11.5" and 7" barrels have chrome-lined bores and chambers.
  15. What chambers are used in DPMS barrels?
The standard military contoured barrels are chambered in 5.56 NATO. DPMS Bull Barrels are chambered in .223 Rem (except the LoPro which is 5.56 NATO).
  16. What types of lower receivers does DPMS offer?
DPMS offers a forged aluminum lower receiver that has been hardcoat anodized per Mil-Spec and Teflon coated black. This process provides more wear resistance and provides a color match between our upper and lower receivers.
  17. I just bought a DPMS rifle, or at least I think it is a factory built DPMS rifle. What markings indicate if it is factory built?
The serial number on a factory built DPMS rifle WILL NOT have a "K" at the end of the serial number. The "K" indicates that the lower receiver was sold separately and is therefore not considered to be a complete rifle.
  18. My DPMS post ban rifle has a compensator on it, can I remove it?
No, DPMS permanently attaches the compensators to post ban rifles and if removal is attempted severe damage to the rifle will result.
  19. How can I tell if my rifle has a pre ban or a post ban lower receiver?
You must contact the manufacturer of the lower receiver and provide the serial number for determination.
  20. How can I tell the difference between a pre ban and a post ban configuration?
A pre ban configuration will typically have a threaded muzzle, a bayonet lug and a collapsible stock. A post ban configuration will have none of these features.
  21. Is it illegal to use M-16 parts in my AR-15?
    Yes.
  22. What types of magazines are available for the RFLR-308 line of rifles?
All rifles in the LR-308 series now ship with two (2) 19 round steel magazines, or two (2) 10 round steel magazines dependent upon your local firearms restrictions. We also carry a 4 round "Hunting" mag for the .308 as well.
  23. Do other magazines work in the LR-308 line of rifles?
Yes, the original AR-10 Stoner waffle 20 round magazines and the Knights Armament SR-25™ 10 & 20 round magazines will also work.
  24. Are you planning on offering any other calibers for the LR-308?
Yes, at this time DPMS offers the .300 Rem SAUM (discontinued), a .260 Remington and a .243 Winchester, a .338 Federal and a 6.5 Creedmoor as alternative options to the .308 Winchester.
  25. Do you charge for shipping?
Yes, however all ONLINE RETAIL orders over $50 receive free UPS Ground shipping (Excludes Alaska and Hawaii).
  26. Are the upper and lower assemblies of the LR-308 line of rifles interchangeable with other manufacturers rifles? (For example: Can I put a DPMS LR-308 upper assembly on an Armalite® AR-10™ lower assembly?)
No. The assemblies for the DPMS LR-308 line of rifles are proprietary and will not interchange with other .308 caliber rifles except the Remington R-25.
  27. Will AR-10 handguards and rail systems fit on the LR-308 line of rifles?
No. The AR-10 has a different thread pitch on the barrel nut and upper receiver.
  28. Do you have iron sights available for the LR-308?
Yes, standard AR15 flip-up and detachable sights work with the LR-308 series of rifles.
  29. What does DPMS stand for?
DPMS stands for Defense Procurement Manufacturing Services.
