DPMS Panther Arms is pleased to be hosting the Central MN Friends of NRA Dinner on September 9th, 2008 at the Red Carpet Event Center in Saint Cloud, MN. We plan to have a fun-filled evening of entertainment, food, friends, and of course, outstanding prizes.
Last year, our committee put on the 3rd highest yielding dinner in the state, with the highest percentage of return per donor of any Friends of NRA chapter. In 2007, the Friends of NRA contributed over $120,000 to projects here in MN. We were happy to be part of that and hope to make 2008's numbers even better.
The Friends of NRA Dinner is a fund raising event for the NRA Foundation, which has been a leader in the promotion of shooting sports, youth firearm safety, education and research since it's inception in 1990. The NRA foundation is a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organization that raises tax deductible contributions from both businesses and individuals alike.

New Weatherby Orion D'Italia O/U 12GA Shotgun
 Weatherby brings tradition and elegance to this year's Gun of the Year with the introduction of the Orion D'Italia shotgun, a collaborative effort on part of Weatherby and the firm of Fausti Stefano—one of Italy's finest gunmaker.
This exciting new custom shotgun includes a patented and exclusive four-lock system, blued receiver, auto ejectors, 24k gold plated single selective trigger with checkering, and barrel selector on the safety. Features 28-inch blued barrels with 3 inch chamber, vented mid-rib, chrome lining and Weatherby IMC briley compatible multi-choke system. Stock includes Prince of Wales half-round pistol grip, slim forend, precise wood to metal fit and finish on all interfaces and 20 LPI precision cut checkering. The custom designed embellishment by Baron's Engraving depicts two game scenes; on one side, a pair of mallard ducks take flight and on the other, two ring-neck pheasants look for cover. Each gun comes sequentially numbered with a limited production of 1,150.
A Message from Weatherby
My Father (Roy Weatherby) was a life member of the NRA. He instilled in me at an early age the importance of fighting for our 2nd Amendment rights and supporting the NRA's efforts in that regard. He attended every NRA convention personally and as an exhibitor since it's inception, until his passing in 1988. I accompanied him to those shows as a young man and became a life member myself in the early 70's. Since that time our company has found many different ways to support NRA's endeavors and its membership.
I'm particularly proud of the 2008 Gun of the Year project. The collaboration between the staff at the NRA, our factory partners Fausti-Stefano and the engineers and product development people here at Weatherby took nearly a year to refine the details of this limited edition shotgun. We think the time, effort and resources was worth it, and I hope you do too.

Giclée “Cold Plunge” by Dan Smith
From the widely acclaimed and award winning nature artist, Daniel Smith, comes the exciting and hauntingly beautiful 2008 Print of the Year, “Cold Plunge.” Known for his extraordinary attention to lifelike detail, Smith provides a chilling yet serene effect using icy colored hues and contrasts of light and dark; sunlight lines the grizzly on the left whereas the right is covered with a dark and hazy ocean mist.  The surrounding sea seems to engulf the entire creature, as he looks to the horizon to catch one last glimpse of sunshine on his face before he takes another refreshing dip into the arctic waters. The detail of the water on his fur and the glacial look on his face create a cold and distant emotion while the illuminating sunlight provides warmth and connotes happiness. Together, these two distinct elements symbolize the dynamics of natural wonders. In this way, Smith captures a glimpse into wildlife and draws the viewer into the scene, as if he or she is right there. Friends of NRA has reproduced this painting as a giclée on canvas stretched and printed with fade resistant inks. Each giclée comes framed in an espresso walnut frame with an oatmeal liner. Artist Biography: Daniel Smith
For more than 25 years, the incredible works of nature artist Daniel Smith have been both critically acclaimed and celebrated internationally for his spectacular depictions of landscapes and wildlife.
 Smith lives in the mountains of southwest Montana where artistic inspiration surrounds him. He has been painting full-time for over twenty years and has had more than 100 of his paintings reproduced as limited edition prints. Beginning his career by designing conservation stamps, he has produced more than thirty stamp designs—including the 1988-89 Federal Duck Stamp—and was selected as Ducks Unlimited International Artist of the Year for the second time in 2002. In 2003, Smith received three prestigious awards from the Society of Animal Artists. These included an Award of Excellence, the Leonard J. Meiselman Award for a Realistic Painting Executed in an Academic Manner, and the Hiram Baluvelt Art Museum Purchase Award.
The detail and scientific accuracy of Smith's art caught the eyes of organizations such as the National Geographic Society, who commissioned him to paint five color plates for the Field Guide to the Birds of North America, and the prestigious “Birds in Art” exhibition sponsored by the Leigh Yawkey Woodson Art Museum. In 1996, he was inducted into the U.S. ART Hall of Fame, due to his great popularity amount print collectors.
Smith travels frequently to research his subjects in their natural habitat, believing that there is no substitute for personal experience in the field. He says of his work, “I want people to experience the peace, the tranquility of the wilderness, of being the only one out there, communing with nature.” An ardent supporter of wildlife conservation, he feels indebted to the natural world that has provided him with the sole inspiration for his award-winning career.

“Dawn of A Nation” by brian Hart
Freedom is emancipated as we witness the birth of America through this historically accurate and symbolic painting by award winning artist brian Hart. Hart skillfully conveys a sense of depth and a variety of textures in his light-filled work. His historical painting tells a visual story to which viewers can connect with emotionally. In this scene, the formerly oppressed citizens of british  Parliament transform into American citizens as the leaders of the Revolution trot through the plain. America's mascot and symbol of freedom is energetically portrayed here in this work by hunting enthusiast and self-taught artist, Scot Storm.
His passion for wildlife and painting are shown here, as lighting and color are expertly manipulated to convey a stark sense of pride and honor; one feels instantaneously patriotic when viewing this piece. Here for the second time, “Deuces Wild” makes its appearance on an upgraded medium, the giclée, a form of fine art production that uses ink jet printing to capture every detail to a crisp, clean quality.
